FOUR FOR FOUR - TECH OF THE YEAR!

Oct. 16 2025 News By Britt Sellard

American Implement is keeping the streak alive and is THE ONLY dealership in NORTH AMERICA to win the Divisional Title, the highest award, in the John Deere Tech of the Year Contest four consecutive years since the program was started. We are humbled, honored and excited our amazing technicians are being recognized at this level. We are extremely proud of all our talented, dedicated and passionate technicians that are the foundation and core of our service team. Our winner this year joined this prestigious rank of technicians by not only producing exceptional performance but also by living out loud his passion for helping others both inside and outside of his time at American Implement.

Based off the qualifications set forth by Deere, Nick Helton from our Garden City location was selected to be the American Implement nominee for 2025. Every North American dealership had one nomination (some two if large enough) and from that pool, approximately 100 territory winners were selected then the final 11 divisional winners were identified through a blind peer-dealership and John Deere field team review process based on the following criteria:

  • How the technician represents John Deere inside and outside of the dealership
  • How does the technician stand out in service to the customer
  • How is the technician a role model to others
  • How does the technician benefit their communities
  • Their personal reasons why they are passionate about being a technician
  • Customer testimonies and input based on their interactions with the technician

We were thrilled to receive the news last month that Nick had been selected as the Territory Winner and was in the running for a Divisional Title. Late last week, we got the even more exciting news that Nick was a Divisional Tech of the Year, improving American Implement’s record for this prestigious award to 4-0! Our division is filled with high-performing dealerships and approximately 1,700 of the best technicians in the business spanning across the majority of Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, and Colorado. What an example of how American Implement truly ‘leads!’

Accolades from fellow employees and customers came pouring in during Nick’s nomination process. Here are some snippets from his nomination:

  • If the job has called for it, Nick has become a self-taught engineer as well. When a telehandler wasn’t moving, it was discovered the transmission controller was shot and no longer being manufactured. Nick took it upon himself to design and build a new one from scratch and his schematic has been duplicated in several machines across the area.
  • Area farmers have a running joke that Nick’s bathroom reading material is John Deere technician manuals, rather than scrolling on Facebook or reading the newspaper or a magazine because his wealth of knowledge is so impressive and slightly unbelievable.
  • Nick truly leads by example, and the proof is in the attention to detail, quality of work orders and performance numbers of those he’s personally spent time mentoring.
  • Nick’s commitment to developing others carries over into his involvement with Boy Scouts of America and 4-H… When asked what he enjoys most about his involvement, his response was, “Watching the kids grow and develop their skills and interests.”

Customers were eager to share their praises about Nick as well:

  • “His skills as a technician are matched only by his professionalism and work ethic. Nick truly cares and is willing to do whatever it takes to keep our operation rolling. His dedication to his profession is impressive and much appreciated.”
  • “In all the years I've known him, I've never seen him frustrated, short tempered, or in a bad mood. He shows up presentable, organized, focused, always smiling and determined. We believe in treating people right, taking pride in your appearance, doing things correctly, and staying grounded in ethical work and Nick lives that every day.”
  • “Nick’s abilities are my ticket to uptime!”
  • “Day or night, broken heart or broken equipment Nick is your man.”

A special congratulations to Nick for this tremendous honor and representing American Implement with such high standards. We are grateful for all our technicians for their dedicated work - day in and day out and congratulations for all your career milestones achieved!

But the celebration and fun is just getting started! We can’t wait to share more details as Nick is honored for his achievements at John Deere World Headquarters in Moline, IL this winter. Keep an eye out for more special content and updates! Let's celebrate the excellence in service and commitment that makes American Implement stand out!
